Are you feeling overwhelmed by the holidays and want to de-stress for a bit? Or are you longing to go away on a romantic vacation? Or possibly you’re just planning to spend some of your upcoming vacation binge watching a new series?
Ok, even if none of those apply to you, I personally think you should watch Emily in Paris. In fact, you should watch it soon, because Season 2 drops on December 22!
I’m sure there are people out there who studied in Paris, worked in Paris, lived in Paris (or are even just Francophiles) and think the series is unrealistic. I agree – it is! What company would send an employee to work in France, if she doesn’t speak a word of French??? And like Carrie in Sex in the City, how can Emily even afford that wardrobe???
But Emily in Paris is a really cute rom-com – it tells the story of a young engaged American woman from the Midwest, who has an unplanned work transfer to Paris. Yes, there are predictable cultural and language mishaps and many cliches and stereotypes, (Americans speak loudly in English thinking they’ll be understood, while the French respond arrogantly while smoking cigarettes, etc) but it’s fun to watch. In December 2021 when travel has become difficult again, this series is a form of travel escapism. And like Ted Lasso, the episodes are a half hour of easy entertainment. (No, I am NOT saying this is as good as Ted Lasso!) But with all of the binge watching I’ve been doing lately, it’s fun to watch a series without feeling the need to decompress (or have a drink!) afterward.
Even if you’re skeptical, just give the series a chance! There is beautiful scenery and a gorgeous cast (many with charming French accents). And fun fact: Lily Collins, the actress who plays Emily, is actually the daughter of musician Phil Collins. Finally, if I haven’t tempted you enough, check out the trailers below AND a link to an article about the leading man, Lucas Bravo😍
